In one spectacular evening, spanning 2 unique sets, multi-award winning jazz trumpet iconoclast Brownman Ali will lead an all-star quintet through the many different musical eras of Miles Davis’ always evolving career - from bebop to cool, Coltrane to Shorter, electric-jazz to hip-hop. This show is a single night version of Brownman’s award-winning month-long FIVE WEEKS FOR MILES series.

A Jazz New Year's Ever Party like no other, featuring a night of hard-swinging tunes from the classic Blue Note Era.  You'll hear music by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk,Herbie Hancock, Art Blakey,Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Grant Green, Horace Silver, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and many many more...  The ensemble will start with swing classics and slowly, over the course of the night, start to interpret them in the contemporary jazz fashion Brownman has become renowned for.  By midnight - expect it to be a full on jazz-funk New Year's party you won't want to miss!

HALLOWEEN THRILLER
Acclaimed jazz / hip-hop trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI leads an all-star quartet through his popular annual Halloween Thriller concert. The much lauded BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO + 1 will perform the entire Michael Jackson "Thriller" recording, interpreted and re-worked in the Miles Davis-esque fashion this multiple National Jazz Award winning improviser has become known for. In addition to the quartet performing Thriller top to bottom, other MJ classics will be featured through the night for this unique Halloween weekend jazz party.

TRIBUTE TO FREDDIE HUBBARD
A special 2-set concert that features an all-star cast of hand-picked top-shelf jazz musicians bounding through 2 sets of legendar trumpet player Freddie Hubbard's inspired compositions. The 1st set will focus on Freddie's acoustic period ("Ready for Freddie", "Open Sesame", etc.) with the 2nd set showcasing his later electric groove period ("Red Clay", "Skydive", etc.).

GURU's JAZZMATAZZ
Brownman was the touring trumpet soloist with legendary rapper GURU (of Gangstarr fame) in his JAZZMATAZZ ensemble from 2006 to 2010, occupying the position formerly held by the luminous Donald Byrd. Brown was the last trumpet player in the group until Guru's tragic death from cancer in 2010.  There is a memorial site at guru.brownman.com

NICK MACLEAN QUARTET

Taking influences from Herbie Hancock’s Blue Note era records this powerhouse quartet explores a modern, original repertoire while paying tribute to some of the greatest improvisers in jazz history. In June 2016, the quartet recently debuted a host of new original material and also performed a number of tribute shows during the 2016 Toronto Jazz Festival including a tribute to Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock and Cole Porter.

GAME.SET.TRAP
Redefining perceptions of ‘trap-based’ music by bringing the inherent soulful, musical elements to the forefront. By interpreting lyrics through the instrumental arrangements, they artfully conceal its controversy, hearing it stripped down to its core musical elements and making for a universally engaging performance. GAME.SET.TRAP performs in the ‘jazz-soul’ idiom, pulling motivic influences from Ahmad Jamal and Duke Ellington. Bringing new concepts influenced by the NEXT Collective, Christian Scott, and Ben Williams, this Toronto trap-jazz collective is connecting cultures and generations.

Led by Peruvian vocalist / percussionist Johann Aguirre, Bestial was a salsa band of note in the Toronto latin community and featured some of the hottest latin musicians in the country.

(featured trumpeter in 1999-2001)
Cuban singer-songwriter featuring a 14 piece salsa orchestra fusing comtemporary latin american rhythms (like tango and flamenco) with traditional Cuban grooves (like son and salsa).
 

YARITZA MARTINEZ
(featured trumpeter in 1999-2000)
Cuban Son singer-songwriter formerly of "Las Perlas del Sol" and relocated to Toronto, Brownman acted as her Musical Director and trumpet player for a year.
 

PACANDE
(featured trumpeter from 1997-2000)
Led by Colombian guitarist Diego Marulanda, Pacande embodies the rich sounds of Colombian folkloric music.  Nominated for a Juno in the World Music category.
 

DOMINICANADA
(featured trumpeter from 1995-2003)
For 15 years in Toronto, Dominicanada was once considered the top merengue group in Canada. Infighting and inner group politics caused the group's ultimate demise in 2004.  There still exists a band with the same name in Toronto, however it is but a shadow of what this group was in it's hayday.
 

Dr. POP & The NOISE
(featured trumpeter from 1995-1999)
Led by guitarist / singer / song-writer Steve Lukacic, Dr. Pop & The NOISE would feature Lukacic's catchy all orginal pop tunes played with an all jazz group (including Stich Wynston on drums, Ross McIntyre on electric bass, Brownman on trumpet, Glen Gummerson on trombone and Frank Pincente on tenor).
