GURU's JAZZMATAZZ
Brownman
was the touring trumpet soloist with legendary rapper GURU (of Gangstarr
fame) in his JAZZMATAZZ ensemble from 2006 to 2010, occupying the position
formerly held by the luminous Donald Byrd. Brown was the last trumpet player
in the group until Guru's tragic death from cancer in 2010. There

NICK MACLEAN QUARTET

Taking
influences from Herbie Hancock’s Blue Note era records this powerhouse
quartet explores a modern, original repertoire while paying tribute to
some of the greatest improvisers in jazz history. In June 2016, the quartet
recently debuted a host of new original material and also performed a number
of tribute shows during the 2016 Toronto Jazz Festival including a tribute
to Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock and Cole Porter.

GAME.SET.TRAP
Redefining
perceptions of ‘trap-based’ music by bringing the inherent soulful, musical
elements to the forefront. By interpreting lyrics through the instrumental
arrangements, they artfully conceal its controversy, hearing it stripped
down to its core musical elements and making for a universally engaging
performance. GAME.SET.TRAP performs in the ‘jazz-soul’ idiom, pulling motivic
influences from Ahmad Jamal and Duke Ellington. Bringing new concepts influenced
by the NEXT Collective, Christian Scott, and Ben Williams, this Toronto
trap-jazz collective is connecting cultures and generations.

group in Canada. Infighting and inner group politics caused the group's
ultimate demise in 2004. There still exists a band with the same
name in Toronto, however it is but a shadow of what this group was in it's
